Home Valuations – Residential Moving Coverage

What are Home Valuations?

Home valuations tend to be seen as identical to insurance coverage, when in fact these two things are mutually exclusive. Valuation, as defined by Dahill Moving and Storage’s service partner Mayflower Transit, is an optional means of protecting your belongings by establishing a level of carrier liability for any cargo loss or damage while your shipment is in the carrier’s custody. Valuation as a way of determining liability is unique to various carriers, and any given tariffs may contain other conditions on a case-to-case basis.

Unlike insurance, valuation gives customers the option to declare the level of liability they want the carrier to take on. As a form of coverage, home valuations are definitely on the more basic side. They cannot cover acts of God, hostile or war-like actions, terrorist activities, defects or inherent nature of covered items, acts or omissions of the customer or delays caused by strikes, lockouts, labor disturbances, riots or civil commotion. These are things that insurance may be able to take into account, with an appropriate adjustment of premiums.
